Day 2

Hanoi Sapa

Today prepare to overwhelm your taste buds with a wonderful introduction to Vietnamese cuisine. Your guide will collect you in the morning and journey with you by Cyclo to the market. You will meet up with a local Chef and experience a day in his life as you wander through the bustling fresh food market. Be shown tips and tricks to ensure that only the finest quality ingredients are selected before bringing your wares back to Duong's Restaurant for an exciting cooking class. Along the way you will get to sample a delectable selection of exotic street foods. During the lesson, the Chef will teach you the intricacies of food presentation by creating small decorations to enhance the appearance of your dish. You’ll also learn some basic cooking techniques and master some knife skills, required for these complex dishes. After lunch, enjoy some leisure time back at your hotel before to relax or enjoy one of our bonus Inspiring Sights options to enhance your experience.

The market has 3 storeys covering an area of approximately 9,600 square meters and has everything from electronics to live animals.

Day 3

Sapa Red Dzao Village Sapa

Upon your arrival in Sapa early in the morning, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel. After breakfast, you will begin your incredibly scenic trek to Ta Phin Village of the Red Dzao people, a place awash in culture and tradition. Marvel in the warm hospitality of the Red Dzao people and enjoy a delicious lunch in the village. After lunch you’ll take the beautiful return trek down before being transferred back to hotel for a relaxing afternoon or enjoy one of our bonus Inspiring Sights options to enhance your experience.

Optional Inspiring Sight (3 of 4) - Ta Van Village Trek - Ta Van village is hidden in the foggy cloud, far away from Sapa busy streets. All its natural beauty are well reserved by over 110 households living in this village. It is home to Dzao and Dzay community.

Please note: as Ta Phin Village of the Red Dzao people is rather challenging for below average fitness levels due to the hike into the mountains of Ta Phin, you can alternatively request to arrange a visit to the H'mong villages, which offer a much easier trek.

Day 4

Sapa Muong Hoa Valley Ha Giang

Following breakfast at the hotel you will begin your drive to Ha Giang, the laid-back provincial capital in northern Vietnam. One of the most beautiful place in Vietnam, Ha Giang is known for its forested limestone and granite mountains and sits on the Lô River. This relatively long drive will be broken up by a visit to the picturesque Muong Hoa Valley in Lao Chai village. Here you will revel in the gorgeous panoramic view of the surrounding iconic rice terraces. On arrival to Ha Giang, check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 5

Ha Giang Sung La H'mong Palace Ma Pi Leng Meo Vac

Prepare for an adventurous day as you leave Ha Giang and head to the rural district of Meo Vac, with plenty of stops along the way. First you will visit Sung La Village, located on the Dong Van plateau in the mountainous northern province. Sung La Village became a popular tourist destination after it was featured in the 2006 film Chuyen Cua Pao (Pao's Story). After visiting Sung La, you will continue on to the famous H'mong King Palace. In 1902, with the consent of the French colonial rulers, Chinese tradesmen built the impressive wooden palace of Sa Phin. Two H’mong kings ruled from here. The first, warlord Vuong Chinh Duc was aligned to the French and the second, Vuong Chu Sen, aligned himself with Ho Chi Minh's independence fighters. The palace was built like a traditional Chinese courtyard mansion with four double storied wings. During your visit, one of the descendants of the last King will be on hand to take questions from visitors. Following this you will be travelling through Ma Pi Leng Pass where the views from "Heaven's Gate" truly deserve the term breathtaking. Virtually every bend from Ma Pi Leng Pass to Dong Van brings a new photo opportunity. On arrival to Meo Vac you will check in your hotel and spend the night relaxing.

Meo Vac Ha Giang

After breakfast enjoy a walk around the small yet charming village. Located in the Northeast region of Vietnam, Meo Vac borders China and is enclosed by craggy mountains. Visit the quaint local market, as well as some old houses of Hmong and Lo Lo people. There will be plenty of photo opportunities with the friendly local hilltribes people, known for their colourful traditional attire. After a delicious local lunch, you will begin your scenic drive back to Ha Giang.

Pandaw Cruise Hoa Binh

Today’s highlight is a trip to Hoa Binh, the site of a major battle with the French in 1951 & 1952 and home to the Muong ethnic group. The Hoa Binh Dam at the Black River is the largest hydroelectric dam in Vietnam and Southeast Asia and symbolizes the industrialization and modernization of the country. Enjoy an afternoon boat ride on the reservoir of Hoa Binh power station and admire the dam’s impressive architecture. Back on board the ship you will be presented with a traditional performance by local hill tribe people in the evening

Day 9

Pandaw Cruise Da River

This morning you will be visiting a museum and local village where the inhabitants still wear their gorgeous traditional dress. Spend the afternoon sailing downstream basking in the unspoilt beauty of the Da River. Pass through the Ba Vi National Park with its rich and diverse tropical and sub-tropical flora and fauna before arriving at Trung Ha. Here our chef will share his skills in fruit carving and demonstrate how to create traditional Vietnamese spring rolls.

Day 10

Pandaw Cruise Viet Tri

After breakfast you will briefly disembark your cruise to travel by coach through beautiful scenic countryside to the ancient village of Duong Lam. Time really slows down at this quiet and peaceful UNESCO Heritage Site. Enjoy a truly genuine experience here, as the village typically evades most tourists’ itineraries and has not been commercialized in any way. Back on board you will continue cruising downstream towards Viet Tri. Take in the sights and sounds of the bustling river full of all kinds of craft and activity. This evening meet your guide in the dining room for a lecture on Vietnam, its history, geography and people.

Day 11

Pandaw Cruise Red River

Today will be a favourite for any artisans on board! You will begin by cruising to Tien Du ferry station to visit the Hung Lo Temple where you will be regaled with a special type of traditional singing that has been passed down through generations. Continue from here by bus to Gia Thanh village, home of the makers of the conical hats (known as ‘non la’). The ‘non la’ are 100% made by hand with palm leaves and bamboo. Their origin dates back approximately 3,000 years. This afternoon will include an excursion to a nearby carpenter village famous for its exquisite carvings and woodworking techniques.

Day 12

Pandaw Cruise Lower Red River

Today you will go ashore to tour a timeless Arcadian Vietnam with iconic rice paddies punctuated by striking rock formations. Of particular interest are the Thay and Tay Phuong Pagodas, built into the dramatic limestone outcroppings in the middle of the emerald green rice fields. This afternoon you will be stopping at Bat Trang, a ceramic village that literally translates to ‘bowl workshop’. Bat Trang is a seven century-old pottery village, located in an area rich in clay. On the way back to the ship you’ll have the opportunity to watch a traditional unicorn and lion dance at the jetty. This dance originated in China and spread throughout Southeast Asia.

Pandaw Cruise Hanoi

Today you’ll drop anchor in the bustling capital city of Hanoi to visit some highlights of this incredible Asian metropolis. Hanoi is known for its centuries-old architecture and rich culture. Must-sees include the notorious Vietnam War prison known as the Hanoi Hilton, the Temple of Literature where Confucius did his thinking, and the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. This afternoon will include a walking tour of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, including a visit to a coffee shop to learn about Vietnam’s famous coffee-making industry.

Day 14

Pandaw Cruise Thanh Ha

Today you will continue to observe the interesting and vibrant life on the river before reaching your next destination. This afternoon’s excursion will be to Thanh Ha Commune, where you can explore the village on foot and enjoy a private water puppet show set under the shade by a beautiful pond of lotus and lilies. The Water Puppets are a tradition dating back as far as the 11th century, originating in the villages of the Red River Delta. The stories tell the day-to-day life of rural Vietnam with a strong reference to Vietnamese folklore. The puppets are made of lacquered wood, and the performers are in a waist-deep pool hidden behind a screen.

Day 15

Pandaw Cruise Halong Bay

You’ll be casting off in the early morning to head towards the spectacular Halong Bay, with its 2,000 dramatic limestone islands and extraordinary rock formations dating back 20 million years. Your exploration of Halong Bay will begin with a visit to the so-called “Dark and Bright Cave”. Take a kayak or a local basket boat rowed by fishermen and enter this remarkable cave emerging into an enclosed area similar to a crater. Bats can be heard in the cave and massive stalagmites hang from the ceiling. Continue your cruise around Halong Bay until dropping anchor in Rang Dua.

Day 16

Pandaw Cruise Halong Bay

This morning you will continue to sail around Halong Bay before beginning a breathtaking trip along a small winding road through the limestone rocks towards Viet Hai Village. Explore the village on mountain bike or electric buggy and take in the pristine natural landscape. Meet the friendly locals before visiting the village’s vegetable farm and some of the traditional village houses. In the afternoon continue cruising towards Lan Ha Bay for a visit to a floating fishing house. Weather dependent, you will end the day with cocktails at a beautiful beach in Halong Bay – don’t forget to bring your swimwear!
