Arrive in Tasmania’s capital city, Hobart and transfer to your accommodation. Enjoy a day at leisure in Hobart. Take time to stroll through Hobart’s legendary Salamanca Market which is set in the stunning historical waterfront. Here you will find quality local handcraft, food and entertainment. In the afternoon you may choose to board the ferry to MONA. The Museum of Old & New Art is one of the world’s most unique and controversial museums. View the largest private art collection in Australia with its fascinating blend of ancient and modern art.
The Tasman Peninsula and Port Arthur Historic Site are some of Tasmania’s most visited destinations. Set in tranquil gardens Tasmania’s famous convict settlement site harbours a dark history which our experienced guide will bring to life. Visit the famous geological features of the peninsula as you explore the rugged coastline. In the afternoon, meet Tasmania’s enigmatic character, the Tasmanian Devil and take the opportunity to hand feed the delightful kangaroos.
This morning we take a brief stop in the historic village of Richmond where you can soak up the nostalgia of colonial times. Then relax and enjoy a scenic drive along Tasmania’s East Coast to the Freycinet Peninsula, with its exceptional beauty, pristine white sandy beaches and granite coastline. Walk the track up to the world-famous Wineglass Bay lookout for some stunning photo opportunities, with views across Freycinet National Park. A shorter cliff walk around the lighthouse at Cape Tourville is also on offer.
This morning depart the beautiful East Coast and continue your journey to Launceston, for an introductory tour of Tasmania’s largest northern city. Explore the scenic Cataract Gorge where the South Esk River forces its way through sheer rocky cliffs. Evoke memories of the genteel Victorian era as you stroll in the landscaped gardens. Travel to Latrobe for the possibility to see Platypuses in their natural environment. This unique semi-aquatic monotreme is by nature a shy creature and some patience and luck can required to see it. Travel through lush rolling farm pasture before reaching the alpine bush of the Cradle Valley. Enjoy an introduction to this captivating alpine environment before settling in at your accommodation for the night.
Today you will be mesmerised by the beautiful alpine landscapes of Cradle Mountain, where in many places, dolerite cracked into vertical columns has resulted in spectacular sculpted mountains and cliffs. On a clear day the rugged grandeur of Cradle Mountain is reflected in the tranquil waters of Dove Lake, or you may experience the drama of its craggy peaks through swirling mist. Your guide will introduce you to the many endemic fauna and flora species of the region whilst enjoying picturesque views on your walk beneath the spectacular craggy peaks. Magical forests of Pandani (the tallest heath plant in the world), Sassafras, King Billy Pines and the deciduous Beech can be seen adjacent to spectacular glacial lakes. Birds such as Forest Ravens, Black Currawongs and Wedge-tailed Eagles are present in this area, whilst Echidnas, Platypus, Spotted-tailed Quoll and the Eastern Quoll may also be seen. At dusk, you have the option to join your guide on a night spotlighting tour or simply relax at your accommodation.
Depart the Cradle Valley and travel to Tasmania’s Central Highlands also known as “The Heart of Tasmania”. Here in this alpine environment, the air is noticeably clear and the silence inspiring. In the afternoon, there is an opportunity to explore Lake Ada, discover its history and immerse yourself in this barren but beautiful and unique landscape. On dusk, you may have the chance to observe Wombats, Wallabies and Possums as they turn the area into a hub of activity. With a bit of luck, there could also be the opportunity to see Quolls and Tasmanian Devils in their natural habitat.
This morning your guide takes you into Mount Field National Park, the oldest National Park in the state. Be mesmerized by the lush forest landscapes, from eucalyptus temperate rainforest to alpine moorland. Explore the green forest canopy where you can crane your neck to see some of the tallest flowering plants in the world. This cool temperate rainforest allows you the opportunity to search for some of Tasmania’s 12 endemic bird species including Scrubtit, Black Currawong and Tasmanian Thornbill. After lunch, you may have another opportunity to observe the unique duck bill and webbed feet Platypus in the wild. Return to Hobart in the late afternoon.
This morning, travel to the seaside village of Triabunna and board a ferry to cross the Mercury Passage to Maria Island. This unique island national park sits just off Tasmania’s east coast. Enjoy a day of peaceful walking amongst historic ruins, across sweeping bays, rugged fossil cliffs and imposing mountains. This island sanctuary provides an opportunity to view its resident wildlife, including Wombats, Cape Barren Geese, Tasmanian Pademelons, Forester Kangaroo’s and even the Tasmanian Devil in their natural environment. In the afternoon, make your way down the east coast to Hobart.
Today is your day of leisure to explore the sights of Hobart at your own pace. Tasmania's foodie capital has an amazing array of cafe's that will satisfy your palate and get you ready for a day of exploration. Today you have the choice of selecting an Inspiring Sight as part of your package. Please note, only 1 may be selected as they run at the same time.
A visit to the Cascade Brewery or the Cadbury Chocolate factory comes highly recommended. Or why not visit the Royal Tasmanian Botanial Gardens for a nice change of pace.
Tour Hobart's historic streets and charming neighborhoods before reaching the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) for an afternoon spent exploring its remarkable exhibits. Admire grand architecture, visit expansive gardens, and see Australia's largest private collection of art and artifacts. Start your tour in Hobart's marine district, where sailboats bob in Sullivan's Cove. Head into the city aboard your comfortable coach and cruise past stately government buildings, charming boutique-lined streets, and imposing Gothic churches.
Take in some history with a stop at the 200-year-old Anglesea military barracks. Continue on to the Female Factory - a long-shuttered women's prison that's now a UNESCO World Heritage site, and pop in for a look at the oldest brewery in Australia.
Heading north, stop at the Royal Tasmania Botanical Gardens, where you can enjoy a stroll through native and exotic flora. Finish your morning with a photo opportunity at Rosny Hill.
Arrive at the MONA and enjoy lunch if you'd like at The Source Restaurant (additional cost). Spend the afternoon wandering halls filled with ancient relics and contemporary pieces, aided by informational iPads that track your progress. Experience the contrast between antiquities like an Egyptian sarcophagus and modern macabre sculptures as wind through this bizarre yet highly celebrated collection. End this fabulous tour by ferry, with a scenic cruise back to town on the Derwent River. The tour concludes with return ferry to Brooke Street Pier.

When completing your Passenger Booking Form, you will be asked if you would like to add Optional Tours, where any applicable cost will be added to your final balance. If you choose not to select them at this time, you can choose to add them later by logging in to your Account online or speaking with your Dedicated Support Agent for assistance.
Please note that you must select your Optional Tours no later than 65 days before departure, after which you will be required to purchase them on tour. Please keep in mind that anything purchased on-tour is subject to availability and prices may vary as you will be paying in local currency. We appreciate your understanding.
Fitness Requirements
While the tour itinerary should give you some guidance and overview to the expected requirements, to determine if this tour is right for you we categorise each of our tours in terms of their intensity. These guidelines are to ensure that each tour group is conducted as expected and to ensure the overall satisfaction of all Inspiring Vacations customers.
As a general rule, porterage is not included, therefore at all times you are expected to handle your own luggage where help may not be available.

3 – Moderate Tour: A good level of fitness and mobility is required, as this tour includes a moderate level of physical activity and is considered a medium-fast paced tour. You should be able to walk up and down stairs, get on and off the coach and able to walk reasonable distances of approximately 2 kilometres per day or more with ease. Any physical ailments you may have must be disclosed at the time of booking to determine your suitability. If you have any form of walking aids, other than a walking stick or hiking poles, then this tour is not suitable.
