Upon arrival at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore — stroll along the Danube promenade, discover nearby cafés, or head out for your first taste of local Hungarian cuisine.
In the evening, you’ll meet your fellow travellers and tour leader for a welcome meeting at the hotel, where you’ll receive an overview of the journey ahead.

After breakfast, embark on a comprehensive 3-hour city tour of Budapest with a local guide, starting with the stunning view from Gellért Hill. From here, you’ll enjoy an unbeatable panorama of the city, split into two parts: Buda, the ancient seat of Hungarian kings, and Pest, the modern heart of the city.
We’ll begin our exploration in Buda, visiting the impressive Buda Castle and wandering through Trinity Square, Fisherman’s Bastion, and Matthias Church. After snapping photos of the grand Buda Castle, we’ll cross the iconic Chain Bridge to Pest, where you’ll be awed by the magnificent Hungarian Parliament Building along the Danube’s edge.
Next, we’ll stroll down lively Váci Street, home to bustling shops, before visiting St. Stephen’s Basilica, which houses the surprisingly quirky relic of the right hand of King Stephen. We begin at the historic Belgrade Fortress, overlooking the meeting point of the Sava and Danube rivers. Spanning centuries of history, the site includes highlights such as the Victor Monument, Saint Petka Chapel, and the Clock Tower.

Today, we continue our journey through The Transylvanian Triangle, beginning with a visit to Sighisoara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded in the 12th century by German craftsmen, the Transylvanian Saxons, this town is famous for its well-preserved medieval centre, colourful houses, and impressive watchtowers. But perhaps the most intriguing aspect of Sighisoara is its connection to Vlad the Impaler, the real-life figure behind the Dracula legend. During our exploration, we’ll visit the Church of the Dominican Monastery, the Clock Tower, Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, the Tailors’ Tower, and the Covered Stairway, all while soaking in the medieval charm of this fascinating town.
After Sighisoara, we’ll continue to Brasov, widely considered the most picturesque town of our journey. After breakfast and check out, we’ll journey into Bulgaria, making our way towards the village of Ivanovo. Our first stop will be the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ivanovo Rock-Hewn Churches. This remarkable complex, dating back to the 12th century, is a series of churches, chapels, monasteries, and cells carved directly into the rock. It was here that the first hermits created their homes and places of worship, and today it stands as a testament to early monastic life.
Next, we’ll visit the picturesque village of Arbanasi, which feels like an open-air museum. With its 80 beautifully preserved houses, Arbanasi retains its medieval charm, showcasing the quiet, timeless beauty of Bulgaria's rural architecture.
Our final stop for the day is Veliko Tarnovo, often referred to as the ‘City of Tsars’. Next, we’ll head to Kazanlak, known for its fragrant rose fields. Here, you'll have the chance to take in the stunning landscape and capture some incredible photos of the blooming roses, which play a crucial role in Bulgaria's rose oil industry.
From there, we’ll continue to the Damascene Ethnographic Complex, located in the heart of the Valley of Roses. Please note when choosing Single Supplement for this tour, your room will generally consist of a double or semi-double bed. Occasionally there may be a hotel that will provide a single bedded room for single travellers.
2- Shared Room with a known friend
If travelling together with a friend, you can opt to share your room with them and avoid paying a single supplement.
You and your friend can create a unique booking each. Creating a unique booking, gives each of you the flexibility of making different travel arrangements (such as adding extra accommodation, flights, etc), making separate payments and having individual access to our Traveller Hub
During the purchase path, you will need to provide your friend’s booking ID (if known) or at a minimum, your friend’s full name.
3- Shared Room with a fellow traveller
In this tour you can opt to share a room with a fellow traveller of the same gender – as specified in your passport - and avoid paying a single supplement.
If you believe you may prevent your travelling companion from enjoying a peaceful night’s rest, please refrain from selecting this option.

You’ll need a valid passport to travel internationally and most countries require your passport to have a minimum of 6 months validity, so remember to check the expiry date.
We need your passport information to get everything ready for your tour so the information on your booking must match your passport exactly. Please take care to provide the correct details. We recommend carrying a copy of the photo page of your passport while travelling and leaving a copy at home with family or friends.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is strongly recommended on all our tours. We require that at a minimum you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation. It is also important to consider forced pre-tour cancellations and how your chosen insurance policy may cover such circumstances, so please keep this in mind when choosing your provider.
We strongly recommend all travellers have a policy that also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage or personal effects. For international tours, you will be asked by your tour leader for your travel insurance details if they were not already added to your Traveller Hub account pre-departure.
If you have credit card insurance your Inspiring Vacations tour leader or local guide may require details of the participating insurer/underwriter, the level of coverage, policy number, and emergency contact number rather than the bank's name and your credit card details. Please contact your bank for these details before arriving in-country.
Before you depart, you will be asked to submit your Travel Insurance details through the booking holder's Traveller Hub account through the Inspiring Vacations website. This is to ensure that we have this information readily available should we ever need it.
Health & Wellness
All travellers need to be in good physical health to participate fully on this tour. Our group tours are designed to immerse you in incredible sights and activities, often involving walking tours and self-exploration. To ensure you can fully embrace every moment, we recommend a moderate level of fitness for all of our tours.

Starting Point
Your starting hotel may differ from the original itinerary. Please refer to your final documentation which will be provided approximately 14-30 days before departure for your confirmed hotel list. If you need to book pre-tour accommodation independently, we suggest you do this only once you have received your final hotel list for your tour. If you would like to book something sooner, we recommend that you book using a flexible rate that can be cancelled through your chosen third-party provider without penalty.
Travellers will arrive at various times throughout the day depending on flights booked. If arriving before standard check-in time, which is generally 3pm, you are welcome to leave your luggage at hotel reception and explore your surroundings until check-in becomes available as there are no scheduled activities on day 1 of the itinerary. The hotel may grant early check-in, however this is strictly subject to availability and at the hotel’s discretion.
Note: if you need to apply for a tourist visa before departure, we recommend using the details of the suggested hotel on the tour itinerary if you wish to fulfil this before the release of your final tour documentation. Please refer to our visa section for more information on whether or not a visa is required for your destination.
Arrival Details
Airport transfers are included as part of your package, so long as you are arriving as per the purchased itinerary. If you have purchased an extension, either pre or post-tour, the applicable transfer service will be forfeited from your package and you will need to make your arrangements to the starting hotel.
Where the service remains included, on arrival look out for a representative holding an “Inspiring Vacations” sign after you have collected your baggage and exited customs. If you cannot find them, try to avoid wandering around and instead stay in one place and call the emergency contact number on your documentation.
Where the service has been forfeited due to an early arrival and extended stay, we do offer airport transfers at an additional cost which can be booked via your Traveller Hub. We recommend you wait until you receive your final documentation to book transfers as your start and end hotels will only be confirmed at this point. Please note that if you are choosing to book an independent airport transfer service, your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader cannot be held responsible for any unforeseen circumstances that may arise, nor can they resolve any concerns that you may have with your transfer service.

Welcome Meeting Instructions
You are welcome to arrive at any time on Day 1 of your tour, with the day at your leisure. A welcome meeting will be held at the hotel at 8:00pm on Day 1, where you will meet your tour leader and fellow travellers and receive important information about the days ahead. Please ensure you arrive on time.
In Case of Emergency
Although we strive to deliver exceptional holiday experiences, unforeseen circumstances can occasionally arise during travel. If any issues arise during your tour, it's essential to promptly communicate them to your tour leader or local representative. This ensures they can take immediate action to address the problem and mitigate any negative impact on the remainder of your journey.
We understand that there may be instances where your tour leader or local representative is unable to resolve a situation to your satisfaction. In such cases, we encourage you to request that the tour leader or local representative escalate the matter to their direct manager for further assistance.
When your final tour documentation is released, this will include an emergency contact for our local travel partner while you are on tour. If this is not included in your documentation, you will receive this on arrival during your welcome meeting.

While both tour leaders and local guides enrich your travel experience, their roles differ. Tour leaders, who often accompany you for the entire tour, handle logistics, ensure smooth sailing of the itinerary, and act as your point of contact for any concerns. They might provide general information about destinations, but in-depth historical or cultural knowledge often comes from local guides. Local guides, frequently native to the area, lead tours at specific sites or attractions, offering a deeper understanding of the local history, art, or way of life.
Coach Transportation
The size of your coach will comfortably accommodate your group. There's usually room for some extra seats, ensuring a relaxing journey. Your luggage will be safely stored either underneath the coach or in a dedicated trailer.
While the exact coach style may vary depending on the departure, all our coaches offer comfortable seating. Keep in mind that Wi-Fi and charging outlets might not always be available. To stay connected and avoid dead batteries, we recommend fully charging your devices beforehand or bringing a portable charger.
For longer journeys, we'll make sure to include ample restroom breaks along the way, so you can freshen up and recharge at your convenience, as facilities are not on-board the coach.
Itinerary Changes

Staying Connected
If you want to stay connected and access reliable internet while on tour, there are a few options available. It is possible to purchase a virtual sim and we recommend contacting your mobile phone provider for assistance. You can add a roaming data plan to your existing phone contract is another option, albeit an expensive one. You will need to arrange this before departure.
We also recommend downloading WhatsApp and using this to communicate with other group members while on tour, and of course, after the tour if you’d like to stay in touch. Luggage Requirements
What you’ll need to pack will depend on the season and the variety of environments you’ll encounter—from historic cities and coastal towns to mountains and rural villages across the Balkans and Turkey. Travel light where possible, while ensuring you can comfortably carry and lift your own luggage, including up stairs or over uneven surfaces.
A lockable suitcase with wheels is ideal, alongside a medium-sized backpack (45–50L) and a small day bag for daily essentials such as water, a jacket, and your phone or camera. Aim to keep main luggage under 20kg, with 15kg being practical. Some hotels may have narrow entrances, and streets in old towns or rural areas may be cobblestone.
Clothing: Pack lightweight, breathable clothing for warm days, plus warmer layers for cooler mornings, evenings, or mountainous regions. Long sleeves and pants also protect against sun and insects.
Footwear: Comfortable, closed-in walking shoes are essential, as you’ll walk on cobblestones, old town streets, and uneven terrain.
Sun Protection: Bring a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses—especially important in summer months in both Turkey and the Balkans.
Warm & Wet Weather Gear: Even in warmer months, some areas can get chilly or experience rain. A light waterproof jacket or packable umbrella is recommended.
Medical Kit: Include painkillers, Band-Aids, antihistamines, electrolytes, prescription medications, and insect repellent.
Water Bottle: A reusable bottle (at least 1.5L) helps you stay hydrated and reduces plastic waste.
Electronics & Adapters: Bring your phone, camera, chargers, and power banks. Most countries use Type C or Type F European plugs (220–240V). A universal adapter with surge protection is recommended.
Comfort Items: Earplugs, a book or journal, and downloaded entertainment can make hotel stays and longer coach journeys more comfortable.

Climate
Travelling through Turkey and the Balkans offers a diverse climate experience depending on the season and region.
In the Balkans, spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are generally mild and pleasant, with daytime temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59–77°F) and comfortable conditions for sightseeing. Summer (July–August) can be hot, particularly in lowland and coastal areas, with temperatures often reaching 30°C or higher (86°F+). Mountainous areas and higher-altitude destinations remain cooler, offering a refreshing contrast. Winters (December–February) are colder, especially inland and in mountain regions, with occasional snow.
In Turkey, coastal regions such as Istanbul, Izmir, and the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts experience hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Summer temperatures often reach 30–35°C (86–95°F), while winter temperatures are generally 10–15°C (50–59°F). Inland areas, including Cappadocia and Ankara, have more pronounced seasonal variations: summers are hot and dry, while winters can be cold, with snow and frost in higher elevations.
Weather can change quickly across both regions, particularly in mountainous areas. Light layers, sun protection, and a waterproof jacket are recommended year-round to stay comfortable while exploring cities, villages, and natural landscapes.
Currency and ATMs
Throughout this tour, you’ll encounter several different currencies:
ATMs are widely available in cities and larger towns across both Turkey and the Balkans, and most accept major international credit and debit cards. Card payments are generally accepted in hotels, restaurants, and larger shops, but cash is recommended for smaller purchases, market stalls, or rural areas where cards may not be accepted.
It is advisable to withdraw modest amounts of local currency as needed, rather than carrying large sums across borders. Always inform your bank of your travel plans to avoid security blocks on your cards. Carry a mix of cash and cards, and keep a small reserve of Euros, which can be useful across multiple countries. Smaller denominations are helpful for easier transactions, tips, and market purchases.
Food and Allergies
Travelling through Turkey and the Balkans offers a rich and diverse culinary experience. In Turkey, enjoy flavours such as kebabs, mezes (small plates), pide (Turkish flatbread), baklava, and strong Turkish coffee. The Balkans feature hearty dishes including Hungarian goulash, Croatian seafood and peka (slow-cooked meat and vegetables), Bosnian ćevapi and burek (savory pastries), Montenegrin Mediterranean-inspired seafood, Serbian grilled meats, Romanian sarmale (stuffed cabbage), and Bulgarian shopska salad and soups. Local breads, cheeses, pastries, and fresh produce are common across the region.

Local Customs
The Balkans and Turkey are regions rich in cultural diversity, shaped by centuries of history, religion, and unique national identities. While each country has its own customs, there are some common practices to keep in mind as a respectful traveller.
People in both regions are known for their warmth and hospitality. Guests are often offered coffee, tea, rakı (fruit brandy in Turkey), or homemade treats—accepting even a small amount is seen as polite and respectful. Handshakes are the most common greeting, sometimes accompanied by a kiss on both cheeks, particularly among friends or women. Eye contact is valued as a sign of attentiveness and sincerity. Locals can be very direct in conversation; what may seem blunt is usually not intended to be rude.
When visiting religious sites—such as mosques, churches, monasteries, or synagogues—modest clothing is expected. Shoulders and knees should be covered, and women may be asked to cover their heads with a scarf (often provided at the entrance). Remove hats when entering sacred spaces.
In some countries, gestures can be culturally specific—for example, in Bulgaria, a nod can mean “no” and a shake of the head can mean “yes.” It’s worth clarifying verbally to avoid misunderstandings.

Tipping in the Balkans
Tipping is not compulsory, but it is a thoughtful way to show appreciation for the service and care provided by your Tour Leader and driver. If you feel they have gone above and beyond to make your experience enjoyable, a tip is a meaningful gesture.
Guidelines:
Tour Leader or Local Guides: €4–6 per person, per day
Driver: €2–3 per person, per day
Tipping is usually done in cash and given directly to the individual at the end of the tour or service. The exact amount is entirely at your discretion and should reflect your satisfaction with the service received.
Tipping in Turkey
Tipping is customary in Turkey and is often seen as a reward for good service, providing an important supplement to local incomes. While it is not included in your package, following local standards can help you show appreciation appropriately.
Guidelines:
Tour Leaders: USD 80–100 (AUD 125–160) per person for the entire tour
Drivers: USD 10 (AUD 15) per person, per day; higher tips are suggested for drivers who spend multiple days with the group
Local Guides: USD 20 (AUD 30) per person, per day
Tipping is a personal decision and should reflect the level of service you feel you have received. Tips are generally given in cash directly to the individual.
Peak Travel Times
Peak travel periods in Turkey and the Balkans vary across the region, influencing both prices and availability.
In Turkey, the busiest months are June to August, when coastal resorts and cities such as Istanbul, Izmir, and Antalya attract large numbers of visitors. Summers can be hot, especially in inland areas like Cappadocia, and popular sites may be crowded. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) offer milder temperatures, fewer crowds, and a more comfortable sightseeing experience.
In the Balkans, summer (July–August) is the peak season, particularly in coastal areas like Croatia and Montenegro, as well as major cities such as Belgrade, Sarajevo, and Sofia. Winter sees fewer tourists, especially in inland and mountainous regions, making it ideal for travellers seeking a quieter experience.
Be aware of local holidays and religious observances, such as Ramadan in Turkey, which can affect opening hours for restaurants, markets, and some attractions. Planning ahead allows you to navigate peak times, cultural events, and seasonal variations, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable journey through these diverse regions.
Safety and Security
Most national governments provide regularly updated foreign travel advice on safety issues involved with international travel. We recommend that you check your own government's advice for the most up-to-date travel information before departure and ensure that your travel insurance covers you for all destinations and activities on your trip.

Turkey and the Balkans are generally safe for travellers, but common-sense precautions are recommended. Petty crime such as pickpocketing can occur in crowded areas, markets, and on public transport, so be mindful of your belongings and avoid displaying valuables.
Use reputable taxis or ride-share services, and avoid walking alone at night in unfamiliar areas. Respect local customs and dress modestly, especially when visiting religious or conservative sites. Be cautious of unsolicited guides, persistent vendors, or isolated areas after dark.
Your Tour Leader and local guides will provide advice and support during included activities, but travellers are responsible for their own safety during independent exploration.

Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive a link to a post-purchase survey, which is your opportunity to share your feedback with us on your booking experience and interactions with our Sales and Customer Success teams. This feedback is invaluable to ensure that we are servicing our customers to the best of our ability.
Furthermore, towards the end of your travels and while you are in your destination, you will receive an email from us with a link to an in-depth trip survey. Your tour leader or local guide may also provide you with a QR code that you can scan using your device to access our survey straight away. It is very important to us that we hear from our customers to ensure that we continue to meet and exceed customers' expectations, so this will be your opportunity to let us know how your trip has been, what has worked well and potentially what could be improved.
Finishing Point
Your finishing hotel may differ from the original itinerary. Please refer to your final documentation which will be provided approximately 14-30 days before departure for your confirmed hotel list. If you need to book additional post-tour accommodation, please do so once you have the final hotel list. We recommend booking a flexible rate that can be changed or cancelled without penalty should there be any unforeseen changes to your booking.
Travellers will depart at various times throughout the day depending on flights booked. Check-out time is generally from 10am-12pm. You are welcome to leave your luggage at the hotel reception and spend your final moments of free time exploring the area or please speak with hotel staff if you would like to extend your check-out time. This service is subject to availability and will likely come at an additional cost payable directly.
Departure Details
Airport transfers are not included as part of your package. However, we trust that your journey from the hotel to the airport will be comfortable and hassle-free.
As an added service, we do offer airport transfers at an additional cost which can be booked via your Traveller Hub. We recommend you wait until you receive your final documentation to book transfers as your start and end hotels will only be confirmed at this point. Please note that if you are choosing to book an independent airport transfer service, your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader cannot be held responsible for any unforeseen circumstances that may arise, nor can they resolve any concerns that you may have with your transfer service.
To make your way to the airport, there are various connections by train or limousine bus. Most destinations offer ride-share services, such as Uber or Didi. If you're having any problems, you can speak to hotel reception before your departure.
This package is a Flight Add-on package
This package has the option of adding international airfares to your booking when selecting your departure city. Select your departure city after clicking ‘Book Now’ and a cost will be stated next to your selected departure city. This cost will then be added to your booking and international flights will be added to your booking.
