This morning after breakfast we will meet as a group and begin a city sightseeing tour with our local guide. Beijing is a metropolis in northern China and the country’s capital City. Formerly known as Peking, Beijing has been an important city throughout Chinese history. It is one of the four Great Ancient Capitals of China, offering China's most wonderful array of attractions. We will explore many of central Beijing's sites, beginning with Tiananmen Square, which sits at the heart of Beijing. Tiananmen Square is one of the largest and grandest public plazas in the world at 440,000 sqm in size. From here we will enter the imposing walls of the Forbidden City, once the domain of the Ming Dynasty, for an exclusive tour through this vast complex of courtyards and lanes. Many of the public rooms have been transformed into galleries which display artwork, while others remain frozen in time, untouched and closed to the public. In the afternoon enjoy free time before this evening’s dinner. Alternatively, you may also choose to join us on one of our bonus Inspiring Sights to enhance your experience. Today’s highlight is one of the most anticipated - an excursion to the majestic Great Wall of China, one of the Seven Wonders of the World! Today, just a handful of sections are open to the public as thousands of kilometres have crumbled over time and are unsafe for visitors to traverse. The Chinese government is constantly working to repair parts of the wall and preserve as much of its structural integrity as possible, but some sections — particularly those of the Ming dynasty — are still in great condition considering their immense age. Here we will enjoy a full day tour of the impressive Mutianyu section of the Great Wall with our guide. Later this afternoon you will have some free time to relax. Early this evening we will be boarding the mind-blowing bullet train to travel to Xi'an. China’s bullet train network is now the most expansive in the world and you’ll be rocketing towards Xi’an at speeds up to 300 km/h.

Xi’an is one of the oldest cities in all of China, with over 3,000 years of recorded history. As one of the four Great Ancient Capitals of China, it served as the capital city during several of the most significant dynasties in China’s history. Xi’an is now home to a great number of precious and ancient relics, but is best known as the starting point of the famous Silk Road and where the towering Terracotta Army can be found. Today we will begin our guided tour with a visit to the remarkable Terracotta Warriors considered the eighth Wonder of the World and discovered by accident in 1974. This magnificent army consists of over 7000 soldiers, archers, horses and chariots that has guarded Emperor Qin’s tomb since 210 BC. Each figure is unique and the painstaking repair and evacuation continues to this day. Next we will walk through the famous bustling marketplace of Muslim Street, a sensory explosion after we enjoying an Inspiring Taste of local delicacies. Here we will also explore the Gao's Grand Courtyard, a traditional Chinese dwelling in the Muslim quarter that belonged to the founder of the successful Gao family, who produced many officials, officers and businessmen.

Today we will spend the morning cycling atop the Xi'an city walls (1.5-2hrs, flat terrain). The City Wall of Xi'an is the most complete one that has survived in China, as well being one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. This chance to ride on such an important piece of history is one you won’t want to miss. Early this afternoon we will board another thrilling bullet train ride towards the city of Xining. Xining is the capital of Qinghai province in western China and one of the major gateways to the Tibetan Plateau. Upon arrival we will transfer to the hotel where we will enjoy a delicious dinner together as a group.

Today we will be visiting Ta’er Temple, also known as Kumbum Monastery, with our local guide. Ta’er Temple is a Tibetan ‘gompa’ founded in 1583. Following our tour here, the rest of the day will be free to spend at leisure. Take some time to explore this beautiful city further or to relax at the hotel. This evening we will be boarding our overnight train, heading towards the city of Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Please note, the only cabin type on the train is 4 berth. Travelling pairs will be grouped together. In each soft sleeper cabin has a lockable door to ensure a quiet environment.

This morning we arrive into Lhasa and transfer to our hotel for check in. At an altitude of 3,490 metres, Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world and has been the religious and administrative capital of Tibet since the mid-17th century. It contains many culturally significant Tibetan Buddhist sites such as the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Norbulingka Palaces. After settling in we will meet with the rest of the group to partake on a lovely guided orientation walk around the city. The highlight of our walking tour will be a stroll around the colourful Barkhor market, the best place to experience the local vibes of Lhasa.

Today will be spent exploring the beautiful city of Lhasa further with our local guide. We will begin by witnessing the splendor of the Potala Palace, the residence of the Dalai Lama until the 14th Dalai Lama fled to India during the 1959 Chinese invasion. It is now a museum and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sitting atop Red Mountain at an altitude of 3,700m, the red-and-white Potala Palace’s rooms number around 1,000 and include the Dalai Lama’s living quarters, as well as murals, chapels and tombs. Next we will visit the Sera Monastery, one of the "great three" Gelug university monasteries of Tibet. Finally we will see the Jokhang Temple, considered as the most sacred and important temple in Tibet and another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Later this evening we will enjoy a scrumptious Momo dumpling meal together as a group, a traditional delicacy in Tibet.

Today’s highlight will be a visit to the intriguing and awe-inspiring Yamdrok Lake. One of Tibet’s three largest sacred lakes, it is over 72 km long and is surrounded by beautiful snow-capped mountains. The name of the lake means “turquoise” due to the way the shimmering surface glows a brilliant turquoise colour when the sun shines. Following our visit here we will return to Lhasa where you may take the afternoon to relax and perhaps participate in another one of our Inspiring Sights.

While others like it and think it's not that bad, and it is worth trying and a good way walking into real local Tibetan life and culture for Tibet travel. This morning following breakfast we will be visiting the famous Panda Research Centre. The Centre is renowned for its breeding program and is home of the Giant Pandas and their gorgeous cousins, the Red Pandas. Founded in 1987, it’s stated goal is to “be a world-class research facility, conservation education center, and international educational tourism destination.” In the afternoon we will be taking a bullet train to Chongqing where we will be boarding our deluxe Yangtze River Cruise, our home for the next three nights. The expansive Yangtze River is the longest river in Asia and the third longest in the world. It is renowned not only for its impressive size, but also for the natural beauty that surrounds it. This morning’s shore excursion is to the legendary Shibaozhai. The site has a history of more than 400 years when it was built into the side of a 200-metre-tall hill. The striking nine story red pagoda was built in 1819 to make it easier for people to reach the Buddhist temple at the very top of the hill. This evening enjoy dinner on board, mingling with fellow travellers and enjoying the luxuries of the ship.

Today’s shore excursion is to the mesmerising Shennong Stream. The stream flows through three beautiful gorges including the Mianzhu Gorge, Parrot Gorge and Long Guangdong Gorge. It’s an eerie yet memorable experience.

Our shore excursion for this morning is to the Three Gorges Dam project. One of the biggest construction projects undertaken by mankind, and the largest hydropower project in the world, the scale of the dam is awe-inspiring. We will visit the site and then return to the ship to view the large ship locks. Later this afternoon we will be departing from our cruise to head to the airport to catch our evening flight to Shanghai. Tonight we enjoy an Inspiring Stay. While the hotel is like any other high quality 4 star hotel, the location is everything! Enjoy being walking distance for the famous Nanjing Road and the iconic Bund.

Today we will take a walk with our guide through the Old City area on the way to Shanghai's most famous traditional garden - the Yu Garden. This gorgeous Chinese garden is located beside the City God Temple in the northeast of the Old City of Shanghai. Yu Garden is believed to have been built in the Ming Dynasty, more than 400 years ago. The highlights of the garden include its classical Chinese architecture, exquisite sculptures and carvings, and the busy Yuyuan bazaar. From here we will continue on to the Shanghai Museum before taking an evening walk along the Bund riverside. The Bund is Shanghai’s iconic waterfront and this famous site is lined by the colonial architecture of European design. It is the best place to capture the Western influences of the old days and is now known as the “Wall Street of the East”. Following this you will have the opportunity to participate in one final Inspiring Sight to enhance your final night in China.

Airfare Information

  • Full service airline used will be Singapore Airlines (or similar if unavailable)
  • Flights will require a minimum of 1 transit (maximum 2)
  • Adelaide customers will likely require two stops in either direction
  • All tickets will include 20 kilos checked baggage per person, along with 7 kilos of hand luggage.
  • Despite the airlines baggage allowance, we recommend travelling with 20 kilos per person due to restrictions with internal flights (where applicable), as well as coach and train transportation. Also, you will be responsible for handling your luggage at all times as the services of porters is not included. If travelling over this amount, you will be liable for any excess baggage fees enforced by the airline, payable direct.
  • Once ticketed, flights are non-refundable; any changes will be subject to the airline rules and change fees
  • Full names as per passport (including all middle names) are required

Take the hassle out of getting to the airport with private chauffeur transfers to and from your home airport. Your personal chauffeur will meet and greet you, attend to your luggage and drive you to your destination in a luxury vehicle.

You will be required to make your own way to the starting point of the optional tour, as well as back to your hotel. Fitness Requirements
While the tour itinerary should give you some guidance and overview to the expected requirements, to determine if this tour is right for you we categorise each of our tours in terms of their intensity. These guidelines are to ensure that each tour group is conducted as expected and to ensure the overall satisfaction of all Inspiring Vacations customers.

As a general rule, porterage is not included, therefore at all times you are expected to handle your own luggage where help may not be available.

This particular tour is categorised as a “4”.

  1. Active Tour: A very good level of fitness and mobility is required for you to enjoy all aspects of the itinerary, as this is considered a fast-paced tour. While there is some free time scheduled either in the morning or afternoon, there are many full days of sightseeing with minimal rest and some early starts. You will be required to walk up and down stairs, get on and off the coach and participate in all scheduled sightseeing that may be conducted on uneven ground and terrain. Any physical ailments you may have must be disclosed at the time of booking to determine your suitability. If you have any form of walking aids, other than a walking stick or hiking poles, then this tour is not suitable.

Accommodation
The accommodation listed is subject to change. Any changes will be of an equal or higher standard. Bedding configurations (double or twin) are requests only. All efforts will be made to meet your preferences however any changes are beyond our control.

Single Supplement
Single supplement is $999 per person in addition to the twin share price.

Paired Solo Travellers
This package allows you to avoid paying a single supplement by booking as a Paired Solo Traveller.

This option must be selected at time of booking during the purchase path under "Select Your Room" and then choose "Paired Twin Room".

Regardless of whether an accompanying solo traveller is found, you are guaranteed to travel at no additional cost.

Solo travellers are matched only on the basis of gender and not on other factors such as age, nationality, religion or sexuality. We kindly ask that you disclose any requirements, medical or otherwise, that might disturb your matched traveller’s sleep (e.g. sleep apnoea or a CPAP machine). Unfortunately, with this in mind and in the interest of other travellers, we request that you proceed with your own private room with the resulting single supplement. Should a second solo traveller not be available, you are nonetheless guaranteed to travel at no extra cost and you will be placed into a single, twin share or double room by yourself. Your tour group may include multiple solo travellers who may or may not be paired. No changes will be permitted to any pairing arrangements.

Note that for some portions of some itineraries, the group sizes will vary. Some packages may operate on groups as small as 2 people and therefore, there may be time spent travelling only with your paired traveller. Should a package require a minimum number of 2 travellers and you are not paired, your booking may be cancelled.

You will be introduced to your matched solo traveller at the beginning of your itinerary and your personal details will not be shared as per our Privacy Policy. Should there be any dissatisfaction with your matched traveller, unfortunately we are unable to make any changes to your room arrangements or offer any refund. Inspiring Vacations takes no responsibility for and will not be held liable for any dissatisfaction with the matched traveller or for their actions.

All departures remain strictly subject to availability and may sell out prior to your tentative booking being confirmed, in which case the fee will be refunded in full. All other booking terms apply.

Visa & Passport information
It is the traveller's responsibility to ensure they have a valid passport. The passport must be valid for a minimum of six months from the intended date of return to Australia.

The best way to apply for your Visa is directly with the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in your nearest capital city. We recommend you to organise an appointment online to arrange a date and time.

You will require specific documents to apply for your visa which we will provide you closer to your departure date. Please keep in mind you are unable to apply for your visa until you are within 3 months of your travel date.

Tour Documentation
Final documentation, including e-tickets and hotel details, will be provided approximately 30 days prior to travel.

Children
Children must be 5 years old or over and share a room with parents at all times. Children are the same price as adults.

Tour Length
The total length of the tour in days includes time spent inflight and is subject to change, depending on the flight schedule. Please refer to the day-by-day itinerary for the time spent in your destination(s).

Refundable deposit within 28 days of purchase:

For cancellations made within 28 days of paying the deposit on any tour, your deposit can be refunded in full or can be transferred to a new booking should you decide to change to another package or destination. Please note this change of mind guarantee does not apply for bookings made within 90 days of departure, after which time our standard 48 hour cooling off period applies. After this time, your booking becomes non-refundable. 

All cancellation or change requests must be advised in writing to our Customer Service Team at support@inspiringvacations.com prior to the cut-off period, to allow us sufficient time to respond and action your request. Should we not hear from you following this time period, your booking becomes non-refundable and you will be issued with a reminder for the second installment due for your booking. 

Refund times will vary and the timeframe of which will be advised at the time of cancellation. Any refund of deposit will be issued back to the original form of payment. 

Any bookings made prior to 13 March 2020 must abide by the original payment term conditions. 

Transferrable second installment up until 90 days before scheduled departure: 

Following the second installment payment and up until 90 days before your departure only, should you wish to postpone your travel or transfer to another package, we can provide you with a credit note of the current balance paid on your booking, to be used to rebook within 18 months of the credit being issued. 

Any change request must be advised in writing to our Customer Service Team at support@inspiringvacations.com prior to the cut-off period specified, to allow us sufficient time to respond and action your request. Should we not hear from you once inside 90 days of scheduled departure, your booking remains non-refundable and becomes non-transferrable, and you will be issued with a reminder for the final balance due for your booking.

Any bookings made prior to 13 March 2020 must abide by the original payment term conditions.
