To truly appreciate this region, the best approach is to venture onto its waters, and this morning, enjoy a canoe trip on the river with your guide.

Tour Style
To meet the needs of various types of travelers, we choose to operate various types of tours, and depending on your selected package will mean different services are provided throughout your trip. The following descriptions of each tour style we hope will ensure that each traveller has appropriate expectations before they start their travels:

  • Fully Escorted - This tour is fully escorted by an expert English-speaking guide who will accompany you throughout the tour.

All participants must be in good physical condition to fully engage in this journey. For the safety and welfare of yourself and fellow travellers, if you are feeling unwell prior to departure, we advise staying home and contacting us to arrange alternate plans.

Prior to selecting your trip, carefully review the itinerary to assess your ability to comfortably manage our travel style. Please be aware that if, based on evaluation by our leader or local representative, a participant is deemed unable to safely complete the itinerary, we retain the right to exclude them from all or part of the trip without reimbursement.

It is advisable to consult your physician for current medical travel advisories and any required vaccinations before embarking. We recommend carrying a first aid kit and any necessary medications in their original packaging, as they may not be readily available during travel. For those carrying medication, it's essential to check your government's foreign travel guidelines for local restrictions or regulations.

Other than the tent that you pitch or the bed that you sleep in, everything else about these accommodation options are exactly the same. On this tour, all meals are prepared at the truck, you have the same guides and the travel times are all the same so that literally is the only decision that you have to make – a bed or a tent.

Camping:
Camping gives you the freedom to build your own little home every evening. You are provided with heavy duty canvas dome tents which are standing height (unless you’re over 6 foot) and approximately 2.5 x 2.5m across the base. For camping; you need to provide your own pillow, sleeping bag and towel. The tents are easy to put up and have flexible self-supporting poles and there are no unnecessary pegs to fight with. There is a flysheet provided for rainy weather and a built-in mosquito net which should be kept closed at all times. Your guide will explain the correct way of putting up and taking down your tent as the incorrect use can cause problems with the tent. You will be provides with a sleeping mattress too.

When the tour gets to a major city, we will put you up in twin accommodation so that you can have the comfort of a bed for the evening. At most places we visit, there is the opportunity to upgrade to accommodation if you’d like, but it is subject to availability.

Most of the camp sites we visit have good toilet and shower facilities, but hot water is sometimes a luxury. Fortunately, most places we visit on tour are warm! Some places that we visit are bush camps where there are no facilities.

Accommodated:
Guests opting to upgrade to the accommodated option will be staying in 3-star rooms with private en-suite facilities. Accommodation are typically situated within the same campgrounds as the campers and communal meals are prepared and enjoyed at the truck with the entire group.

Your luggage is limited to one backpack/duffle bag and one day pack weighing no more than 23kg. As a general rule, if you cannot lift your own luggage, you’ve packed too much! Most people make the mistake of bringing too many clothes on tour, less is more in this instance.

Please keep in mind that this is a safari tour in a specially designed overland vehicle and luggage should not include any Samsonite style suitcases. As the wheelie / trolley bags have a solid frame, they don’t fit into spaces the same way a backpack or a duffel bag does. A compact, flexible, soft shell (without a hard frame) duffel bag is perfect for fitting into a locker of our camping & accommodated tours.

On the camping tours you will be required to bring your own sleeping bag as we do not rent out sleeping bags. We often get asked what sort of sleeping bag is needed for our tours. There are many factors that you should consider when choosing your sleeping bag including, weather conditions, season and the minimum temperatures at night time. Each sleeping bag will have a temperature rating that will indicate either a Risk (weather colder than -3°C), Transition (2°C - 5°C), or Comfort (6°C - 10°C) rating. Also take into account what type of sleeper you are; do you like to layer, do you easily get cold or do you tend to heat up.

You will be provided a mattress, which is 5cm thick, so you have a comfortable night’s sleep. Pillows are not provided, so if you would like to use one, please make sure you bring one with you.

Those upgrading to the accommodated tour, all bedding, towels and toiletries will be provided.

You will need a smaller bag, big enough to bring basic equipment (toiletries and clothes) for two nights – when we visit Khwai Conservation Area and Savuti National Parks as we will be separated from the truck for two nights and space is limited it the 4x4 open safari vehicles.

Overland vehicles are custom built to conform to the highest safety standards and are approved by the South African safety regulator (NRCS) according to strict standards. All overland vehicles have 24 seats taking a maximum of 20 guests, and has additional packing space for camping equipment. There is also a small club area on board ideal for playing cards or socialising and seat rotation is encouraged.

Each traveler has their own allocated locker with the dimensions 35cm wide, 35cm high and 80cm deep - please ensure that your belongings can fit into this secured locker. There will be no concessions given for those whose bags exceed these dimensions.

Please note there is no air-conditioning, wifi or toilets on these overland vehicles.
