We recommend that you carry a first aid kit as well as any personal medical requirements in their original packaging as they may not easily be obtained while travelling. If you are carrying medication, ensure you check your government's foreign travel advice for any local restrictions or requirements. For the safety and wellbeing of yourself and others, if you are unwell before travelling, please stay at home and contact us to make alternative arrangements and we would be more than happy to assist you.
Important Information for Customers with Mobility Limitations
We want to ensure everyone has a fantastic and inclusive experience on our tours. If you require the use of a mobility aid, such as a cane, walker, or wheelchair, please disclose this information at the time of booking.
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for the entire group, our tours are designed with a specific itinerary in mind. This may involve moderate walking, uneven terrain, or stairs. While some itinerary adjustments may not be possible, we'll do our best to find alternative solutions within the planned activities whenever possible.
Open communication helps us ensure your tour is a perfect fit and it allows your local guide or tour leader to assist you where possible.
Information for CPAP Users
If you use a CPAP machine, please let us know at the time of booking. Some portions of our itinerary, like overnight cruises or camping tours, may have limited access to power outlets. In such cases, we recommend travelling with portable battery packs.
Certain activities, like overnight journeys on board smaller vessels, may not be suitable for CPAP use due to space limitations or noise concerns. We can discuss these potential limitations upfront and help you make informed decisions about your tour.
Please ensure that you check the voltage used throughout the countries you are travelling to and if it will be compatible with your machines. For example, Japan runs on 100 volts vs Australia at 220-240 volts, meaning a voltage converter might be required.
Documentation
Tour documentation is typically emailed to the lead passenger or your travel agent between 14-30 days before your scheduled departure. This will include your final hotel list.
Child Policy
Children must be 12 years old or above and share a room with parents at all times. Children are charged the same price as adults.

In the unlikely event of a situation that could potentially disrupt your tour, we want to assure you of the following:
By staying informed and working together, we can ensure a fantastic travel experience for you. We will post our own travel updates to our website here.
Starting Point
Your starting hotel may differ from the original itinerary. Please refer to your final documentation which will be provided approximately 14-30 days before departure for your confirmed hotel list. If you need to book pre-tour accommodation independently, we suggest you do this only once you have received your final hotel list for your tour. If you would like to book something sooner, we recommend that you book using a flexible rate that can be cancelled through your chosen third-party provider without penalty.
Travellers will arrive at various times throughout the day depending on flights booked. If arriving before standard check-in time, which is generally 3pm, you are welcome to leave your luggage at hotel reception and explore your surroundings until check-in becomes available as there are no scheduled activities on day 1 of the itinerary. The hotel may grant early check-in, however this is strictly subject to availability and at the hotel’s discretion.
Note: if you need to apply for a tourist visa before departure, we recommend using the details of the suggested hotel on the tour itinerary if you wish to fulfil this before the release of your final tour documentation. Please refer to our visa section for more information on whether or not a visa is required for your destination.
Arrival Details
Airport transfers are not included as part of your package. However, we trust that your journey from the airport to the hotel will be comfortable and hassle-free.
To make your way to your hotel from the airport, there are various connections by express train or limousine bus. The airport information desks can provide helpful advice, too.
Optional Airport Transfers - Transfer Portal
Depending on the package purchased, you may have the option to add airport transfers to your booking and you can do so through your Traveller Hub account. We partner with an online marketplace where travellers can compare and select the transfer of their choice.
Inspiring Vacations acts as an agent on behalf of our transfer service partner and any service is delivered by the provider. Inspiring Vacations cannot be held liable for any loss resulting from the transfer service provided. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure any transfer booked meets the requirements of any other travel arrangements. Likewise, your tour leader or any of our on-ground representatives cannot be held responsible for the service of your transfer nor are they in a position to assist with amending your reservation. Any transfer booking is separate from any other booking with Inspiring Vacations, regardless of whether purchased with regards to the same travel journey.
When you make your transfer service booking, you will receive a confirmation email and this will include your meeting instructions, as well as direct contact details. Please ensure you print and bring this with you as you will need to ensure you can make direct contact with your transfer service provider.
Welcome Meeting Instructions
You will have a Welcome Meeting in your hotel at approximately 7pm on Day 1, where you will meet your tour leader and the rest of your group, share important information, and hear all about your adventure to come.
In Case of Emergency
Although we strive to deliver exceptional holiday experiences, unforeseen circumstances can occasionally arise during travel. If any issues arise during your tour, it's essential to promptly communicate them to your tour leader or local representative. This ensures they can take immediate action to address the problem and mitigate any negative impact on the remainder of your journey.
We understand that there may be instances where your tour leader or local representative is unable to resolve a situation to your satisfaction. In such cases, we encourage you to request that the tour leader or local representative escalate the matter to their direct manager for further assistance.
When your final tour documentation is released, this will include an emergency contact for our local travel partner while you are on tour. If this is not included in your documentation, you will receive this on arrival during your welcome meeting.
Pace
This tour category is Steady:
Our steady tours offer a good mix of guided sightseeing and personal free time. With a combination of 2-3 night stays and occasional 1 night stops in key locations, this pace allows for deeper exploration while minimising long travel days.:
Mobility & Accessibility
This tour is categorised as: 3 out of 5 - Balanced
Our Balanced tours involve a moderate level of physical activity and are designed to suit the majority of travellers. Be prepared for walking on varied surfaces, which may include cobblestones, gravel paths, and noticeable inclines common in historic towns and natural areas. You must be confident on your feet and capable of navigating multiple flights of stairs and uneven ground without assistance to fully participate.
Activity level:
Moderate to active. This tour mixes winter sightseeing in Norway and Finland with independent time in Paris, then a 7-night river cruise visiting Christmas markets. Expect guided walks, some longer travel days, and lots of time outdoors in cold conditions.
This tour is best for passengers with good general mobility and confidence walking on uneven or potentially slippery surfaces. It may be challenging for anyone who struggles with stairs, balance, cold conditions, or longer days on their feet, and it’s generally not suited to wheelchair users.
Typical walking:
Around 3–8 km on most sightseeing days, usually broken up with stops. Christmas market visits can also involve plenty of slow wandering and standing.
Weather impact (big one on this tour):
Northern Norway and Finland in winter can mean snow, ice, slush, wind and very cold temperatures, which can make walking and balance more challenging. Good footwear with grip is essential.
Surface and steps:
Expect uneven pavements, cobblestones, steps and slippery surfaces, especially around Christmas markets, old towns, viewing areas, and docks. Some attractions and market areas may have limited seating and can involve standing for longer periods.
More demanding moments to be aware of:
Transport and luggage:
This is a multi-country journey (coach, flights, trains, then cruise), so passengers must be comfortable handling their own luggage at airports, stations, hotel lobbies and when boarding the ship. There may be stairs, ramps and longer walks between drop-off points and entrances.

Exclusions
Optional Tours
Depending on the package, you may have the option to pre-book optional tours through your Traveller Hub account. To secure your spot pre-booking these tours in advance is highly recommended. While some tours require a minimum number of participants to operate, you'll be fully refunded if the tour is cancelled at your destination for this reason. Our optional tours are typically led by your tour leader or local guide. Please note that transportation to and from the optional tours may not be included, but your tour leader or local guide will be happy to assist you with navigating public transportation options like trains or taxis to reach the starting point.
Travelling in a group
Travelling in a group means you will experience both the pleasures and perhaps at times, some of the frustrations of travelling with people you don’t know. The good news is you all have at least one thing in common: a love of travel and exploration. Your fellow travellers will probably come from different parts of the world, and fall into different age groups. We ask you to be understanding of the various needs and preferences of your group—patience with your fellow travellers is sometimes required for the overall benefit of the group.
We kindly ask that when you are requested to be at a place at a certain time that you respect this request from your tour leader or local guide. Due to privacy reasons, we are unable to provide you with contact details and any personal information about your fellow travellers booked on your trip before departure.
Community Guidelines
Inspiring Vacations does not tolerate any kind of violence, harassment (whether physical, verbal or sexual), or disrespect toward fellow travellers, our teams (Inspiring Vacations Tour Leaders and local expert guides) or local communities.
Any behaviour that prevents your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader from continuing the itinerary as planned, breaks local laws or opposes any of these guidelines, may result in Inspiring Vacations removing you from the tour.
If something concerns you during your travels, please speak to your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader immediately. Alternatively, when you are on-tour and require immediate support you can contact our Customer Support team and select the “On-Tour” option when listening to the options.
Connect with fellow travellers on Facebook
During your booking journey, you might have received an email inviting you to join a special Facebook group. This vibrant online community is exclusively for Inspiring Vacations travellers wanting to connect, share, and inspire one another. Joining this group unlocks a wealth of information and connections. Swap travel tips, chat with other members who have been where you’re going, and even meet others interested in travelling together for your next adventure.
We also regularly host insightful webinars featuring travel experts who share their tips and tricks for navigating your destination and maximising your itinerary. Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity to connect, learn, and get even more excited about your upcoming tour!
Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader vs. Local Guide
While both tour leaders and local guides enrich your travel experience, their roles differ. Tour leaders, who often accompany you for the entire tour, handle logistics, ensure smooth sailing of the itinerary, and act as your point of contact for any concerns. They might provide general information about destinations, but in-depth historical or cultural knowledge often comes from local guides. Local guides, frequently native to the area, lead tours at specific sites or attractions, offering a deeper understanding of the local history, art, or way of life.
Coach Transportation
The size of your coach will comfortably accommodate your group. There's usually room for some extra seats, ensuring a relaxing journey. Your luggage will be safely stored either underneath the coach or in a dedicated trailer.
While the exact coach style may vary depending on the departure, all our coaches offer comfortable seating. Keep in mind that Wi-Fi and charging outlets might not always be available. To stay connected and avoid dead batteries, we recommend fully charging your devices beforehand or bringing a portable charger.
For longer journeys, we'll make sure to include ample restroom breaks along the way, so you can freshen up and recharge at your convenience, as facilities are not on-board the coach.
Itinerary Changes
Sometimes, unexpected things can happen, like unpredictable weather or higher-than-usual crowds at attractions. In these situations, your tour leader might need to adjust the itinerary slightly to improve your overall experience.
This flexibility ensures you get the most out of your tour! Your tour leader will always keep you informed of any changes and explain the reasoning behind them. Remember, when travelling with a group, sometimes going with the flow can lead to even more amazing experiences.
Staying Connected
If you want to stay connected and access reliable internet while on tour, there are a few options available. It is possible to purchase a virtual sim and we recommend contacting your mobile phone provider for assistance. You can add a roaming data plan to your existing phone contract is another option, albeit an expensive one. You will need to arrange this before departure.
We also recommend downloading WhatsApp and using this to communicate with other group members while on tour, and of course, after the tour if you’d like to stay in touch. Our tour leaders may also use this as a means of communicating essential tour information with you, as well as if you choose to add-on transfers to your booking, as your driver may use this to confirm arrangements with you.
Getting Around
Winter travel in Norway and Finland offers stunning landscapes, but it also presents certain challenges. Expect cold temperatures, abundant snowfall, and icy conditions. Roads can be slippery, which may affect travel times, and while public transportation such as buses and trains generally operates as scheduled, delays due to weather are possible. Air travel may also be impacted by severe weather, so flexibility and patience are recommended.
Some days during the tour will feature longer drives as we journey through Scandinavia’s breathtaking scenery and connect iconic destinations. While these travel days can feel lengthy and occasionally a bit uncomfortable, our comfortable coach, scenic views, and planned breaks help make the journey more manageable, ensuring you arrive ready for the next unforgettable experience.
This itinerary combines coach, train, and river cruise travel, with a portion in Paris reserved for independent exploration. During these independent days, travellers are responsible for navigating the city and managing their own luggage.
The multi-night river cruise aboard an Emerald Cruises Star-Ship offers a relaxed and comfortable way to explore Europe’s waterways. Travellers unpack once while visiting multiple destinations, though luggage must be managed independently when boarding and disembarking the ship.
A reasonable level of mobility is required throughout the tour, including the ability to walk short distances, manage steps, and navigate uneven surfaces. Group dynamics may also vary, as travellers may join or leave the group at different points during the journey.
Hotel Ratings
Star ratings can differ between countries, reflecting diverse standards and amenities. To give you the most accurate picture possible, we don't just rely on a single source for hotel ratings. We go beyond by researching various trusted travel websites like Tripadvisor and Booking.com. This allows us to analyse a wider range of genuine customer reviews and experiences, giving you a well-rounded understanding of the hotel's typical star rating.
This means you can book with confidence, knowing the hotel has a strong track record of satisfied guests.
Accommodation Details
For the Norway and Finland portion of the tour, we stay in comfortable business hotels conveniently located for easy access to transportation, dining, and local attractions. Nordic design emphasizes clean lines and functionality, so rooms may feel cosier than what you might be accustomed to in other regions.
While some amenities—such as tea kettles or coffee makers—may not be standard, hotels provide comfortable beds, essential toiletries, and a restful environment after a day of adventure. If you require specific amenities, it is recommended to plan ahead or speak with hotel staff to see how they can assist.
In Paris, accommodation is 4-star and conveniently located near the train station, offering easy access for independent exploration and a comfortable base to enjoy the city at your own pace.
On the river cruise, your Star-Ship cabin provides modern comfort with ensuite facilities, climate control, and daily housekeeping. Most cabins feature panoramic windows or balcony-style views, allowing you to unpack once while enjoying multiple destinations along the river.
Luggage Requirements
We want to ensure your journey with us is as enjoyable as possible. We understand that travelling during the winter season in Norway may pose challenges. Given you are responsible for handling your own luggage throughout the trip, please be aware that moving luggage in snow or icy conditions can be challenging. For this reason, and to ensure that we are not exceeding the overall luggage allowances on our ground transportation, we recommend packing light (not exceeding 20kg per person) and being prepared for such conditions.
Packing Essentials
To ensure your comfort we suggest packing base and mid layers, along with a substantial winter jacket, a wool or fleece hat, balaclava/buff, gloves, a woolly jumper, scarf, and winter boots. Keep in mind the layering principle: it's more effective to wear several thin layers than a few thick ones.
In exceptionally cold conditions, consider wearing two pairs of gloves – a thick pair of mitts (as mitts keep your hands warmer by not separating the fingers) and a thin pair of gloves underneath for finger dexterity. For those susceptible to cold extremities, consider acquiring carbon hand and foot warmers, typically found in reputable outdoor stores.
To ensure optimal safety and comfort during your winter adventure, we strongly recommend investing in a pair of snow spike shoes before your tour. These specialised shoes provide excellent traction on icy and snowy surfaces, significantly reducing the risk of slips and falls. While it's possible to rent or purchase these locally, availability and pricing may be limited. By bringing your own snow spike shoes, you'll guarantee you have the right footwear for exploring Norway's winter wonderland without any worries.
Climate
This journey spans Norway, Finland, Paris, and a river cruise from Amsterdam to Basel, covering a wide range of seasonal climates.
Norway and Finland
Departures between September and November are considered autumn. Daytime temperatures generally range between 5–10°C (41–50°F), slightly warmer than winter’s 2 to -5°C (35–23°F). Northern regions may see snow as early as September, while southern areas typically experience snowfall from late October. Autumn provides vibrant foliage, crisp landscapes, and picturesque scenery, and marks the start of the Northern Lights season, with longer, darker nights ideal for viewing this natural phenomenon.
Winter brings cold, snowy conditions:
River Cruise: Amsterdam to Basel
During the river cruise, autumn temperatures generally range from 10–15°C (50–59°F), while winter temperatures can drop to 0–5°C (32–41°F), with occasional frost or light snow along the riverbanks. While the cruise provides comfortable indoor facilities, travellers should pack layers, warm outerwear, and waterproof clothing to enjoy sightseeing excursions along the river.
Paris
Autumn in Paris is typically mild, with daytime temperatures around 10–15°C (50–59°F). Winter temperatures can range from 0–7°C (32–45°F), with cold, crisp days and occasional rainfall, so warm layers, a waterproof jacket, and comfortable walking shoes are recommended for independent exploration.
Overall, this tour spans a variety of climates from Arctic Scandinavia to temperate Western Europe, so layered clothing, warm winter gear, weatherproof jackets, and appropriate footwear are essential to ensure comfort and enjoyment throughout the journey.
Currency and ATMs
This tour spans Norway, Finland, France, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, so you will encounter different currencies along the journey:
Norway: Norwegian Krone (NOK)
ATMs are widely available in cities and towns throughout all destinations and generally accept major international debit and credit cards. Cash withdrawals in local currency are convenient and usually incur reasonable fees, but it is recommended to check with your bank beforehand.
Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and shops, particularly in urban areas. However, smaller establishments or rural locations may prefer cash, especially in Norway and Finland, so it is wise to carry a small amount of local currency for incidental purchases, public toilets, or small shops.
For the river cruise and independent travel in Paris, most payments can be made by card, but having some cash on hand is recommended for souvenirs, local markets, or optional excursions.
Food and Allergies
Travelling through Norway, Finland, Paris, and along the Rhine offers a rich variety of culinary experiences. In Norway and Finland, enjoy traditional dishes such as fresh seafood, reindeer, salmon, hearty stews, and rye breads, reflecting the region’s Nordic heritage. On the river cruise, meals feature a mix of local and international cuisine, often highlighting fresh, seasonal ingredients, with options for three-course lunches and dinners included. In Paris, indulge in classic French fare, from freshly baked pastries and cheeses to bistro-style dishes, all easily accessible during your independent exploration.
While travelling with Inspiring Vacations, you will enjoy included meals onboard and at select restaurants, but not all meals are included, giving you the flexibility to choose where, what, and with whom to eat.
If you have dietary requirements or food allergies, please inform our Customer Support Team before departure. Your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader or local guides can provide advice on dishes, recommend restaurants, and help identify ingredients. For those with specific allergies, your Tour Leader will do their best to highlight main ingredients in meals. It remains the traveller’s responsibility to ensure that any problematic foods are avoided.
Local Customs
Travelling through Norway, Finland, Paris, and along the Rhine provides a fascinating glimpse into Northern European and French culture, with each region having its own customs and social etiquette.
Norway and Finland: Politeness, punctuality, and respect for personal space are highly valued. It is customary to greet with a firm handshake and to remove shoes when entering private homes. Tipping is not obligatory but is appreciated in restaurants and for exceptional service. When visiting local shops or restaurants, queueing and waiting your turn is expected.
Paris: The French place a strong emphasis on politeness and formal greetings. Always say “Bonjour” (hello) or “Bonsoir” (good evening) when entering a shop, restaurant, or market. Tipping in restaurants is generally included in the bill, but rounding up or leaving a small amount for excellent service is appreciated. Dress tends to be smart-casual in the city, and respecting local etiquette, especially in cafés, museums, and churches, is expected.
River Cruise (Amsterdam to Basel): While travelling along the Rhine, you will encounter different customs in the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland. Punctuality and respect for schedules are important, especially for river excursions and group activities. In general, locals appreciate polite greetings, calm public behaviour, and respect for local laws and environmental practices.
Being aware of and respecting local customs will enhance your travel experience and help you interact more comfortably with locals, while allowing you to fully enjoy the culture and atmosphere of each destination.
Dress Code
Travelling across Norway, Finland, Paris, and along the Rhine, you will encounter a range of climates and activities, so dressing in layers is essential.
In general, your clothing should be comfortable, weather-appropriate, and suitable for both sightseeing and onboard activities. Packing a mix of warm, casual layers and smart-casual options will ensure you are prepared for all aspects of the journey.
Responsible Dining
Avoid consuming endangered species or items harvested unsustainably. Be respectful of local customs and food practices, and always tip fairly to support local workers. Responsible dining helps protect the environment and promotes the well-being of local communities.
Tipping Your Leader
Tipping in the Nordic region is not compulsory, however, they are much appreciated, especially as a reward if guests feel someone has delivered good service. Tips and gratuities are not included for this package and are discretionary. If you wish to reward good service, the suggested amounts are:
Local assistant or guide transfer: €10 per person, per service
Guide: €5-6 per person, per day
Driver: €5-6 per person, per day
Safety and Security
Most national governments provide regularly updated foreign travel advice on safety issues involved with international travel. We recommend that you check your own government's advice for the most up-to-date travel information before departure and ensure that your travel insurance covers you for all destinations and activities on your trip.
Your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader or local representative will accompany you on all included activities listed on the itinerary, however, you'll have some free time to explore on your own. While your Inspiring Vacations tour leader or local guide will assist you as best they can with your requests and the options available outside your itinerary, please note Inspiring Vacations makes no representations about the safety of the activity or the standard of the operators running the activity. Please use your judgement when selecting an activity in your free time.
Please also note that your Inspiring Vacations tour leader or local guide has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it's deemed necessary due to safety concerns.
This tour visits generally safe and well-developed regions, but it is important to stay alert and exercise common sense. Keep personal belongings secure, especially in crowded areas, public transport, and major tourist sites, including Paris and river ports.
Weather in Norway and Finland can create icy or slippery conditions, particularly on roads, sidewalks, and hiking paths, so wear appropriate footwear and follow local safety guidance.
While travelling in cities and on the river cruise, be mindful of pickpockets and petty theft, and always carry important documents, passports, and valuables securely.
Your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader and local guides are available to provide advice on safety, emergency contacts, and local customs to ensure a secure and enjoyable trip.
Apps to Download
Some useful apps to consider downloading before your tour include:
For the river cruise portion and general European travel:
Downloading these apps before departure will help you navigate independently, communicate easily, and make the most of your sightseeing and river cruise experience.
Post-Tour Feedback
Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive a link to a post-purchase survey, which is your opportunity to share your feedback with us on your booking experience and interactions with our Sales and Customer Success teams. This feedback is invaluable to ensure that we are servicing our customers to the best of our ability.
Furthermore, towards the end of your travels and while you are in your destination, you will receive an email from us with a link to an in-depth trip survey. Your tour leader or local guide may also provide you with a QR code that you can scan using your device to access our survey straight away. It is very important to us that we hear from our customers to ensure that we continue to meet and exceed customers' expectations, so this will be your opportunity to let us know how your trip has been, what has worked well and potentially what could be improved.
Finishing Point
Your finishing hotel may differ from the original itinerary. Please refer to your final documentation which will be provided approximately 14-30 days before departure for your confirmed hotel list. If you need to book additional post-tour accommodation, please do so once you have the final hotel list. We recommend booking a flexible rate that can be changed or cancelled without penalty should there be any unforeseen changes to your booking.
Travellers will depart at various times throughout the day depending on flights booked. Check-out time is generally from 10am-12pm. You are welcome to leave your luggage at the hotel reception and spend your final moments of free time exploring the area or please speak with hotel staff if you would like to extend your check-out time. This service is subject to availability and will likely come at an additional cost payable directly.
Departure Details
Airport transfers are included as part of your package, so long as you are departing as per the purchased itinerary. If you have purchased an extension, either pre or post-tour, the applicable transfer service will be forfeited from your package and you will need to make your arrangements to the starting hotel.
Where the service remains included, your tour leader will confirm the pick-up time from your hotel to the airport and this will depend on the flight that you have booked. Generally, you will be required to be at the airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled departure.
Where the service has been forfeited due to an extended stay, we do offer airport transfers at an additional cost which can be booked via your Traveller Hub. We recommend you wait until you receive your final documentation to book transfers as your start and end hotels will only be confirmed at this point. Please note that if you are choosing to book an independent airport transfer service, your Inspiring Vacations Tour Leader cannot be held responsible for any unforeseen circumstances that may arise, nor can they resolve any concerns that you may have with your transfer service.
